Today is a very special day for Oldenburg horse breeding: Paul Wendeln is celebrating his 95th birthday. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to a man who has been exceptionally connected to our association for decades.
Paul Wendeln is far more than just an extremely successful breeder and horse owner. He is a great patron, a reliable supporter, and above all, a true friend of the Oldenburg Association. For many decades, he has accompanied and supported Oldenburg horse breeding, and with his passion for horses, he has played a decisive role in shaping it.
His lifetime achievements as a breeder are impressive. With a deep understanding of horses, foresight, and a special instinct for mare lines, Paul Wendeln has built a breeding program whose successes are evident across generations.
One of its cornerstones is the elite mare Cinderella by Armand–Camillo. Her lineage has produced numerous licensed stallions, State Premium and Elite mares, as well as successful sport horses.
Horses such as Sir Heinrich OLD, Candy OLD, Caty OLD, and Casey OLD have carried the name of this breeding program far beyond the borders of Oldenburg. National Championship titles, champion mares, and international competitive successes attest to the exceptional quality that Paul Wendeln has developed over many generations.
His breeding program has also left a significant mark on show jumping. A notable example is the Elite State Premium mare Journesse by Zeus: Twelve of her 19 offspring were successful at the advanced level.
Yet as impressive as all these achievements are, what Paul Wendeln means to Oldenburg cannot be expressed solely in terms of titles, ribbons, and successful horses.
It is his decades-long loyalty to Oldenburg horse breeding, his willingness to promote and support it, and his personal connection to our association that make him so special to us. Paul has always been there when Oldenburg needs support—and for that, we are deeply grateful to him.
For his exceptional contributions, he was awarded the Golden Pin as early as 1999. Last year, the Golden Pin with Diamond followed as another special recognition of his extraordinary connection to Oldenburg.
Dear Paul, today we would therefore like not only to look back on an extraordinary lifetime of achievement in horse breeding, but above all to say thank you. Thank you for your loyalty, your support, your trust, and for all the years in which you have accompanied and enriched Oldenburg.
