The Oldenburg breeding community mourns the loss of Aloys Hinxlage, who passed away unexpectedly on April 14 at the age of 83.
With the passing of Aloys Hinxlage, the equestrian world has lost a defining figure whose life’s work remains inextricably linked to Oldenburg breeding. A trained farmer and businessman, he devoted himself to horse breeding with great passion and foresight since 1992, building a breeding program of international standing over the course of decades. Numerous internationally successful sport horses were born in his stable in Garrel.
In addition to Lennox, born in 2001, by Lifestyle out of Uganda by Grannus-Argentinus-Zeus—a 2012 London Olympian who competed in international show jumping up to five-star level—as well as La Una, OS, born in 2011, by Chacco-Blue out of Ulme by For Pleasure - Grannus - Argentinus - Zeus, Charatinus, born in 2009, by Chacco-Blue out of Uganda, also made a name for himself with top placings in S***-level show jumping competitions. His dam, Uganda, paraded in the Brillantring at the Elite Mare Show in Rastede in 1996.
But his breeding also left a significant mark in dressage: His 1c Grand Premium winner Belissario, born 2010, by Belissimo M out of Feldstern by Sandro Hit-Langata Express xx- Pik Bube I, has been successful in S*-level dressage competitions. Quel Filou OLD, born in 2011, by Quaterback out of Elite/St.Pr.St. Urania by Stedinger, impressed in World Cup freestyle competitions after having already drawn attention early on with successes at the Bundeschampionat in Warendorf, where he won the bronze medal, and at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses. His dam, Urania, was shown at the Elite Mare Show in Rastede. Furthermore, horses such as the premium stallion Quateron—a full brother to Quel Filou OLD—and the S*-winning Quickborn, born in 2014, by Quateron out of El./St.Pr.St. Hellena by Rubin-Royal - Florestan I - Donnerhall, the auction-born Divaro, born in 2009, by Dimaggio out of Urania by Stedinger, who placed internationally at Intermediaire I level, and the internationally successful Surabaya, born in 2009, by Sir Donnerhall out of Uriane by Lord Sinclair - Grannus - Argentinus, who began his career in 2013 at the Spring Elite Auction in Vechta, demonstrates the exceptional breadth and quality of his breeding.
Many of his successful horses descend from the renowned Uthoba mare line, which has produced top-class international horses for generations. This line has produced, among others, the 1.60 m-winning stallion Azarro by Argentinus, the licensed stallions Landtinus by Landadel and Bustique by Indoctro, as well as the internationally highly successful show jumpers Tae Bo by Baloubet du Rouet and Phlox by Indoctro. Furthermore, the S-level dressage-successful Sandro Boy by Sandro Hit, as well as many of Vechtas’ auction stars, hail from this successful line.
Aloys Hinxlage, whose breeding operation in Garrel stands as a model for natural and horse-friendly rearing, was awarded the Golden Pin of Honor for his outstanding contributions to Oldenburg horse breeding.
With his passing, Oldenburg breeding loses a dedicated breeder who set standards with passion and down-to-earthness. His legacy will live on in his horses and in the breeding program.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and all his loved ones. We wish them much strength during this difficult time.
